Korg Nano stuff

i am so buying one (or all) of these little babys from korg. the back one first; more buttons, dials and sliders that you can poke a stick at; and all powered directly from the usb :) will be handy to use along whichever usb I/O soundcard i end up with to use with the cdj1000s (or whatever) seeing as you can't use any buttons on any older players to cue/loop/sample within any kind of software. this is just a handy little answer to that problem, and in white too, so that it looks all 'mac' and shit.

trance set

my best attempt...

rane or maya44 ??

So, contrary to the rant on my website, i need a box, to connect my laptop to old generation pioneer players, cdj800,1000, etc, plus any vinyl decks that may still be out there.
i've come to accept that they're going to be out there for awhile, and not every club is going to have the cdj900/2000 JUST yet. have been lucky around here, and rolled up to most events with my macbook pro, and 2 usb cords only. but sooner or later, i'm bound to need one of these, so may as well cross the bridge early. the question is, which one??

http://www.rane.com/scratch.html
http://www.esi-audio.com/products/maya44usb/

maybe i'll have both. the rane looks big and stupid, but most existing clubs would probably be familiar with it, or have someone playing there who had one, a nice easy plug and play job.
the maya looks nice and small, a pocket job, like... i could be at another club earlier and have it in my back pocket, with my macbook under my shirt wedged in the front of my jeans. no one would even notice.

Novation Launchpad

so, have you seen this thing? it's freaking nuts. you can do literally anything with it, as long as you have a spare usb port.
unfortunately, when i bought my macbook pro 13", i didn't realise (okay, i did realise, but i bought it anyway) that it only has 2 usb ports.
which are for the most part, both taken up by a left and right pioneer cdj when im out.
leaving a grand total of 0 usb ports at my disposal. so, bye bye novation launch pad possibility :( would have been a good effects pad.
so my options are...
A) trade up to either a 15" or 17" macbook pro. gay. too big.
B) buy a usb to firewire convertor. i have a spare firewire port, but i know these convertors don't exists, so i'm not sure why i've listed it as an option
C) find a similar effects pad that uses firewire instead of usb. which i have already been looking for.... for months... and months
D) learn to juggle sharp knives; crowd will be distracted and won't notice the lack of mind blowing effects

pioneer cdj350

so pioneer have their new CDJ350 out. never thought i'd see a 'beat-lock' button on an industry leading brand. already dj's worldwide lament in unison that it's too easy to dj. but people with half a brain realise that it simply raises the bar for what can be achieved in a set.
the only ones who can truly criticise are vinyl dj's who use no digital bpm readouts at all. but each to their own, really. some like to do it manually everytime. others might like to afford themselves more time to be creative between songs, and use beatlock. no need to criticize the latter; it's only themselves that will be in trouble one day if they RELY on it rather than just use it. but anyway, do you really think people care? go and stand infront of the speakers; because its what comes out of THEM that matters.
